In the 1500s Copernicus made the revolutionary discovery that our solar system is heliocentric, not geocentric. In other words, the sun is the center of our solar system, not the earth. Before Copernicus, scientists believed that the universe revolved around the earth, not the sun. As a result of Copernicus' study, the way people understood the universe completely changed.
The way so many of us understand life needs to change, too. Most of us live our lives everday as though the world revolves around us. We think God, our family, our friends, etc. exist to bring us pleasure, and when they don't, we're mad. There is something very wrong with this self-centered thinking. It's wrong, because the wrong person is at the center. The Bible teaches that LIFE IS ABOUT GOD, NOT ABOUT ME. God is the One Who created us, and created us for a purpose. This purpose is to know and enjoy Him forever. Ultimately, this is why God does everything in our life. He is drawing us to a relationship with Him. God placed us into the family in which we were born. He gave us the physical features, personality, and abilities that we have. Nothing that has happened in our life has caught Him by surprise. God has done everything and allowed everything for His greater purpose. Have you embraced that purpose? Until you do, your life will continue to be off-center. Instead of asking, "Why God?", we should be asking, "What God? What is it You want to teach me about Yourself through this experience?"
There are foolish people who think God doesn't exist, or if He does, they're going to give Him an earful some day. However, the Bible says, at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth (Philippians 2:10).
Jesus, God in human flesh, lived on this earth into His early thirties, and never sinned. Because of His complete righteousness, He fulfilled the requirement God established for the forgiveness of human sin: a perfect sacrifice. His blood, which was shed on the cross, completely satisfied God's wrath against my sin and yours. No additional sacrifice or work on your part is necessary. Jesus paid it all. The Bible says of Jesus, Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). If you will turn from your sin – the fact that you have lived as your own master, instead of Him – and by faith receive the forgiveness Jesus purchased for you on the cross, you will have peace with God. Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1). When this happens, you will find that life starts to make a whole lot more sense.
Will you repent of your sinful heart against God, and confess Jesus as Lord and Savior? If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). If you will not, and you die in this state of rebellion against God, the Bible says that one day you will appear before Jesus, and He will no longer be your Savior, but your Judge. The Bible says of Jesus in that day, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power (II Thessalonians 1:8-9).
You and I have no right to live our lives as though God does not exist. We have no right to take the bodies and talents God has given us and use them for our own pleasure. This anti-God, self-centered pursuit is why our world is filled with so much hurt, disappointment, and anger. Created human beings are living for themselves, rather than for their Creator. Life all comes together, when God is in His rightful place: at the center, on the throne of your heart.
Perhaps, you are someone who has put your faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior, but you have fallen back into a pattern of living where you are at the center, and not God. Christian, God says to you, ...Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded (James 4:8). God's promise to you is, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9).
Is it time for you to reorient your life? May we all really learn and believe that LIFE IS ABOUT GOD, NOT ABOUT ME.
